Roslyn Russell is currently working as a Senior Packaging Technologist at Kimberly-Clark Australia, based in Sydney, Australia. Roslyn has 20 years’ experience in the FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) environment across the Food and Personal Care industries, working in Procurement, Product Development and Packaging.
Roslyn’s passion is managing new product and packaging launches as a key member of NPI teams. Her current role offers a unique environment leading the Packaging component of projects from concept to shelf. Packaging design, substrate choice, optimisation of pallet design through to colour management & design optimisation with pre-press and packaging suppliers, legal & trademark compliance and conducting trials all form part of a busy but satisfying role with cross-functional teams.
Throughout her career, Roslyn has been part of auditing teams for both packaging and ingredient supply, transitioned packaging from local to imported supply as manufacturing moves offshore, on-boarded new packaging and ingredient suppliers, provided ‘Packaging 101’ training and technical assistance for internal customers and supported the Australian Packaging Covenant.
With the recent Australian government announcement of making 100% of packaging in Australia reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025, the next few years’ focus will skew towards sustainability, which is exciting as it will require innovation and a ‘rethink’ as a whole for waste packaging through to new infrastructure and education of consumers providing new platforms for the packaging industry.
Outside work, Roslyn is a keen cyclist and bush walker. With recent vacations spent in Japan cycling and hiking on the smaller southern islands, Roslyn has gone beyond ‘konnichiwa’ and is currently learning Japanese.
